8/10 Review :Israeli producer Igal Magitman follows up releases on Method (‘Ritual Combat’) and Twisted Frequency (‘Feel Me’), both produced alongside Roman Brisker, with his debut solo release, ‘Wuzik Feeling’, on his own Very Progressive imprint. This second release on the label follows a strong opening by Fitalic and comes with a remix by D-Nox & Beckers. The original mix is, as the label name suggests, Very Progressive. The track is characterised by a throbbing, deep bassline and a heavily fx-ed and an altogether indecipherable vocal sample. Growling synths and haunting keys echo through the piece with subtle crispness; the short breakdown offers a further insight into these elements. Nine minutes of music flies by, demonstrating the quality of the production work. German producers Christian Wedekind (D-Nox) and Frank Beckers have been slowly creeping into mainstream progressive consciousness over the past year or so with strong releases on Baroque and Vapourise, plus building a successful label in the form of Plastik Park. Here they add their own style to Magitman’s ‘Wuzik Feeling’. They toughen up the bassline and kick and adding some spice to the sythns, but overall the remix is just a slightly harder version of the original; it will appeal to some people more than the original but the duo haven’t fully demonstrated their production capabilities. Two more than reasonable tracks are on offer here and the original shows that Magitman is capable of writing some excellent music. Whether or not this style of progressive still has a place in today’s market remains to be seen but the D-Nox & Beckers remix gives the track wider appeal. Anthony Pappa
I am hammering the Dnox and beckers mix, it is massive !!
Hernan Cattaneo Steve Parry (Juice FM) yes i like the d-nox and beckers mix! filthy stuff Moshic
Im going to support the israeli guy ;)
original for me!..good trancy work! Neil Brown (Yates Club / Pro Mobile) Ivibes magazine Igal Magitman is a name that many of you may not yet be familiar with. He has released tracks on Plastik Park and Digital Oracle but has recently signed EPs to the mighty Baroque and James Harcourt's great new label Twisted Frequency.
Wuzik Feeling is a great example of Igals style of driving progressive house. Melodic and rhythmical in equal measures, it's these sort of tracks that really pump the dance floor! Think twisted vocals, skipping hi hats, big sexy breakdowns all topped off with a deep and groovy bassline. The remix here is supplied by Dnox & Beckers who you may know from their recent outings on Polaroid, Sprout, Vapourise, Electribe & Baroque. Their mix is a slightly darker, more dubby affair than the original. They've maintained the drive and overall feel of the original but have stripped away some of the layers, and although the melody is still present it is used far more sparingly. Whilst not exactly ground breaking this pair of tracks are certainly worth checking out if you like your music progressive, driving and deep. My only complaint would be that both mixes are fairly similar so as a whole this release may not appeal to so many people. Expect support from the likes of Pappa, Cattaneo and Seaman. And keep an eye out for Igal, I've a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of him over the coming months...... 7.5/10
